Former Revolution player/coach Walter Zenga has been appointed coach of Catania the Italian Serie A league.

The club, hovering near relegation after a 2-1 home defeat by Torino on Sunday, has seven games left this season to avoid relegation. Catania parted ways with coacher Silvio Baldini yesterday.

Zenga was available after he quit as coach of Romania's Dinamo Bucharest in November after losing a derby to former club Steaua Bucharest.

The 47-year-old former Italian goalkeeper played for the Revs in 1997, before leaving to pursue a career in acting. Zenga came back to the Revs in 1999, as a player/coach, but only lasted a year with the club in both those positions.

Zenga also previously coached National Bucharest and UAE side Al-Ain among others. He earned 58 caps for Italy and was a mainstay of Inter Milan's side in the 1980s and early 90s.
