November 9, 2007
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Women’s Premier Soccer League is coming to Bangor, Maine.
Starting in May 2008, the newly-formed Maine Tide will compete in the North Division of the WPSL East Conference, the league announced Thursday.
"We are very excited to have the Maine Tide join the WPSL," Associate Commissioner Joe Ferrara, Jr. said in a statement released by the league.
"The opportunity arose for us to bring in expansion teams ourselves, and we decided we'd take our combined experience and bring teams to Bangor," said Atlantic Sports Group President Cheryl Stokes of her and Vice President Seth Brown's decision to bring the WPSL to Maine.
The WPSL is a 38-team national women's soccer league with five conferences.
The Tide will play their first match this May at Husson College’s John P. Boucher Soccer Pitch, which is undergoing a $650,000 renovation that will upgrade the field’s natural grass to brand new Field Turf.
Tickets are already on sale for the upcoming season and cost $5 each per game. Family passes - which include four tickets to each of the 15 home games and four merchandise items of your choice - are available for $300. There are also group rates available for purchases of 20 tickets or more.
