Voltage to Open with Ottawa

Vermont Hosts PDL Rivals Saturday

May 22, 2009

The Vermont Voltage opens its season at home Saturday against Premier Development League (PDL) rival, the Ottawa Fury. The game will start at 7 p.m. at Burlington High School.

The Voltage and Fury have developed quite a rivalry recently. Last season the Voltage suffered losses in its first two matches with the Fury. When the Fury needed a late-season victory to solidify a playoff spot, however, the Voltage stormed past them with a 3-0 win to knock them out of the running.

The Fury will be coming to Burlington with hopes of spoiling the Voltage’s first home match at Burlington High School. The Voltage formerly hosted opponents at the Collins Perley Complex in St. Albans before moving to Burlington this season.

“The Voltage is very glad to be hosted by Burlington High School for the summer,” said player/coach Bo Vuckovic. “The faculty and staff have been great and we hope that Chittenden county and surrounding areas will embrace the Voltage as well as the loyal fans from St. Albans. We are Vermont’s team and we will always be Vermont’s team no matter where we play.”

Returning players for the Voltage, such as Pano Georgiadis, Tommy Szczypriorski, Hank Stebbins, Theirno Diallo and Benjamin Wells, are confident and look forward to the opener. A handful of returners have been training together over the past couple weeks in preparation for the big game.
