Voltage Upset Pioneers

Beat Western Mass. in Exhibition

August 7, 2008

The Vermont Voltage behind two goals from Darko Kolic, upset the Western Mass. Pioneers, 2-0, Wednesday night at Vermont’s Collins-Perley Stadium.

The Pioneers, who play a level above the Voltage in the United Soccer League, surrendered two first half goals and never recovered. The Pioneers play in the USL’s Second Division, while Vermont is in the USL’s Premier Development League.

The Voltage struck first on Kolic’s first tally in the 32nd minute and upped their lead to 2-0 in the 41st minute when Kolic buried a feed from forward Matt Stedman.

The Pioneers will have a chance for revenge when they host the Voltage this Saturday on their own turf. After that match, Vermont returns home where they will face the VASL All-Stars in an exhibition match on Wednesday.
