“This was a comprehensive performance by everyone from the back to the front,” Vermont coach Jesse Cormier told UVM Athletics. “This is a tough trip to make and a difficult place to play. I’d like to give credit to my assistant coaches for a great game plan and to the team for its focus and execution. Especially they way they attacked Maine in the second half. Now we look forward to coming home to get ready for our next match against Binghamton.”
After dropping two of its first three league games, UVM has gone 1-0-2 in its last three to move to third place. The Catamounts defense, led by keeper Roger Scully (East Lyme, Conn.), has now recorded three straight shutouts and today Vermont got a needed boost from its offense.
Kouadio finished a nifty feed from Justin Geibel (Boxford, Mass.) in the 63rd minute for his second goal of the season to put the Cats on the board. Hill, on an assist from Tyler Hasman, gave Vermont (5-9-2 overall) a key insurance goal with 7:27 to go.
Vermont outshot Maine, 11-9, with a 5-3 edge in the deciding second half. Scully finished with three saves in picking up his fifth shutout of the season and the 13th of his career. At the other end, Giacomo Brunini made four stops for the Black Bears who fall to 3-11-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the America East.
