New Englanders and the US National Teams
|
Kristine Lilly of Wilton, CT has more appearance for the US National team than any other player, male or female
|
Few can dispute the connection that New England has had to US National teams over the years.
Fall River's Bert Patenaude scored the first World Cup hat trick in 1930, and New Englanders were part of the 1950 World Cup team that shocked England. In recent years, Mass. native Mike Burns made two World Cup teams, Kristine Lilly of Wilton, CT set records for US national team appearances, Conn.'s Tony DiCicco coached the US women to the 1999 World Cup title, Revs and Breakers players have made significant contributions to US National teams and New England venues hosted memorable events, such as the day ex-Rev Joe Max Moore's two goals against Jamaica in the last international played at Foxboro Stadium qualified the US for the 2002 World Cup.
In this section, we'll post stories about players/coaches with New England ties to US national teams, keeping tabs on the latest news from US Soccer as national teams of all ages compete on the world stage. Scroll down for news.
