March 3, 2008
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Four positions on US Club Soccer's Board of Directors have been filled following elections for the two-year terms, including the reelection of Region I's Peter Bradley, Director of Coaching for Mass Premier Soccer.
Also reelected were Region II's Tim Lesiak (Ohio Elite Soccer Academy - West Chester, Ohio) and Region III's John Rennie (Triangle FC - Hillsborough, N.C.). Region IV's Shawn Blakeman (Sacramento United, Sacramento, Calif.) ran unopposed and retains his seat on the board as well.
Current members of the Board of Directors, who have one year remaining on their terms, are Region 1's Mike Lyons (Vision Gold Soccer - Wall, N.J.), Region 2's Mike Sweeney (Cleveland Whitecaps - Cleveland, Ohio), Region 3's Vicki Sanford (Brentwood SC - Brentwood, Tenn.) and Region 4's Derek Armstrong (Nomads SC - La Jolla, Calif.).
Phil Wright, Chairman of the US Club Soccer Board of Directors, has one year remaining on his term. Likewise, Rennie (Vice Chairman), Sweeney and Armstrong each have one year remaining as part of the executive committee.
US Club Soccer is a non-profit organization and as such has an elected Board of Directors who are selected by member clubs and leagues. Unique to soccer organizations is the specification in US Club Soccer's Bylaws requiring that only individuals with soccer experience can qualify for a seat on the board, consisting of eight directors plus a chairman. Members must initially have a relationship with a member club, at least five years coaching experience at a competitive level, and at least a USSF "B" coaching license or its NSCAA or international equivalent.
