Former Connecticut standout O’Brian White made his MLS debut for Toronto FC in Wednesday night’s scoreless tie against Argentine side River Plate.

White played for 45 minutes, his first game action since tearing his ACL during his senior year at UConn.

The fourth overall pick in this year’s MLS SuperDraft, White received extra loud cheers from the 20,005 fans in attendance when his name was announced.

White, 23, said after the match that his knee wasn’t an issue.

"I wasn't worried about my knee. I was just focused on the game and focused on playing rather than on my knee," White told MLSnet.com. "Today was a bit different but it was good since the coaches just wanted me to go and get a feel for it, get a few touches and stuff like that. It was good to get the first game out of the way, and now I'm looking forward to the rest of the season."

White won the MAC Hermann Trophy, given to the nation’s best college soccer player, in 2007. Last season, despite the injury, he was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Year, leading UConn in goals (six) and points (14).
