Twin Honors for Huskies
Schnur, Labbe Earn Awards
October 2, 2007
The UConn women's soccer team earned two Big East weekly honors after going 2-0-0 last week.
Senior midfielder Meghan Schnur was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while junior goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week.
"I'm happy with the way we played today," coach John O'Connor told URI Athletics "And we haven't necessarily been playing poorly, we've just had trouble creating quality chances - and finishing when we have the opportunity to do so. It finally came together for us this afternoon, though, and that's exactly the confidence booster we need heading into the Atlantic-10 schedule."
Schnur totaled three goals, including two game-winners, and six points for the Huskies. The senior tallied the only goal in a 1-0 victory at USF on Sept. 28. She also scored a pair of goals against Marquette in a 5-0 win Sept. 30.
Labbe posted a pair of shutouts in a 2-0 week for UConn. In a 1-0 win at USF on Sept. 28, the junior had six saves. In a 5-0 win against Marquette on Sept. 30, she had three saves. MU entered the match averaging 2.0 goals per game. Labbe has not allowed a goal during three games (270:00 minutes) of BIG EAST play. This is her second career BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week Award. She also earned the honor on Oct. 16, 2006.
