The Reds had control of the ball most of the game but were not able to crack the Tides tough defense until the second half on a ball played over the top to Maine native, Heather Hathorn who had ran into the back post causing the Tides goalkeeper to miss play the ball. Hathorn was credited for the goal by the official score keeper but Tiffany Weimer was the last player to touch the ball and was credited the goal after the game.

Weimer made sure she made the score sheet anyway, scoring the second goal of the game for the Reds.

“First of all, I was very impressed with organization of the team we played today. The Tide did a good job containing our attack and made things tough on us in the final third,” said Reds coach Lisa Cole, who replaced Tony DiCicco while the latter was busy with his U-20 National Team duties. “We did some things very well today and we still need some work in areas. It is the second game of the season. We are going to need to be better in the final third, we will need to make more of a commitment to tough team defense and wining balls in the air but we are very excited about the quality of soccer this teams is capable of playing.”
