Brooke Knowlton of SoccerPlus CT, Becky Gundling of the New England Mutiny and Rebekah Splaine of the Boston Aztecs were all recognized by the league.
Knowlton, the Boston College star and former U.S. U-17 National Team member, had a breakout weekend, scoring four goals while providing an assist for the undefeated Reds in victories over Maine and Massachusetts. Against the Tide, Knowlton broke the deadlock score in the 28th minute with the eventual game-winning goal. The forward then iced the match with her second of the day in the 74th minute.
The Mutiny’s Gundling once again showed her defensive prowess in a win over Adirondack, snuffing out every attack in the midfield. After a loss to first place SoccerPlus CT, New England continues to stake its claim to second place in the East-North Division and that important postseason spot.
Splaine, the former Boston Breaker and New England Mutiny star, had a dominating performance against New York A.C. The Aztec defender helped the squad registered their second win of the 2008 campaign in a 2-0 shutout home victory on June 22, even chipping in a goal for good measure.
Splaine’s teammate, goalkeeper Mae Shamir, earned an honorable mention for the shutout performance.
