Franklie Pierce goalkeeper James Thorpe. |
James Thorpe closed out his collegiate career by leading the Franklin Pierce men's soccer team to the NCAA Division II national title and claiming his third selection to the NSCAA/adidas Men’s NCAA Division II All-America Team.
Thorpe was the keeper of record for all 23 of the Ravens' games this year, posting a 17-2-4 record, 0.63 goals-against average and a .786 save percentage. The East Longmeadow, Mass. native also notched a whopping 12 shutouts on the season.
But Thorpe wasn’t the only Ravens player to garner repeat honors. He was joined on the first team by defender Bisharra Ettienne (East Elmhurst, N.Y.), who was selected to the team for a second time.
FPU forward David Clifton (London, England) also was recognized, albeit on the Second Team, making Franklin Pierce one of four teams to place three players on the squad, joined by Lees-McRae College, Northern Kentucky University and SIU-Edwardsville.
Thorpe and Ettienne were joined on the First Team by Southern Connecticut State defender Ancil Farrier.
