With the Revolution already up 1-0, Thompson connected with Revs captain Steve Ralston to give the team a two-goal lead in the 74th minute. After taking a leading pass from Ralston down the right wing, Thompson took on Earthquakes defender Ramiro Corrales, cut inside and launched a left-footed blast from 18 yards that curled inside the far post just under the crossbar.

Thompson’s Goal of the Week nod is the 12th in club history. In 2004, the award’s inaugural season, Ralston won twice and Joe Franchino once. In 2005, Taylor Twellman won twice and Clint Dempsey once, while Dempsey also won the award in Week 28 of 2006. In 2007, Twellman took home Goal of the Week honors in Weeks 4 and 24, while Sainey Nyassi won the honors in 2008’s Week 1 and 2009’s Week 3.

The Revolution, currently in third place in the Eastern Conference and riding a three-game winning streak, returns to action Saturday when the club hosts the Kansas City Wizards at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
