Let's recap. First, Rajko Lekic makes his debut. Then Benny Feilhaber is acquired. Now, a shirt sponsorship with United Healthcare? All in less than a week? Next thing you're going to tell us you have a deal in place with a designated player and shovels are about to hit the dirt on a soccer specific stadium in the Boston area.
I'm sorry, this is way too much to comprehend. All of this also comes on the heels of the addition of two Frenchmen and an Argentine in the offseason. Not to mention that they've made some solid organizational moves over the last two seasons, such as the reconfigured stadium and the promotion of Jeff Lemieux to spice up the website. We've also got Manchester United-Revolution and US-Spain to look forward to.
I'm sorry, I need a moment…talk amongst yourselves…
Seriously, what HAS happened to the Revs we've known and loved/loathed? Could it be possible that the shrieking voices of the fans have actually been heard? Perhaps the front office and ownership are not as apathetic or incompetent as they've been portrayed?
Whatever is actually going on, let's hope all the good news and good vibrations filter on down to the area that matters most: the on-field product. There is still much work to be done to improve the quality of the team and its relevance to the New England soccer community and the overall regional sports scene.
It is hard not to get carried away by all this positivity. But let's remind the powers that be within the Revolution that they still haven't earned the right to rest on their laurels.
