Shorthanded Phantoms Get Blown Out
Travel Issues Plague New Hampshire Before 7-0 Loss
July 17, 2008
Due to a variety of Visa and travel issues, the New Hampshire Phantoms traveled to Canada to face the Ottawa Fury missing seven players on Wednesday. Despite playing a solid first half, the Phantoms tired in the second and dropped a 7-0 decision to the Fury.
The Phantoms had only 14 players available because of International Visa and student travel permits, leaving them without a lot of depth on the bench and lacking in experience.
In the first half the Phantoms kept the high powered Ottawa offense off the board for most of the time, ending the half trailing 1-0. Despite the effort the Phantoms simply ran out of gas in the second half.
The Phantoms brought up several U20 players for this game to plug some gaps left by the absence of the players unable to travel.
"It was good to see the future out there tonight working alongside of the older players, I feel very proud of the work that our youth program is doing," New Hampshire coach Jim DeDeus said after the game.
The Phantoms will return home to play Ottawa on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
"We have our full complement of players available on Friday at home and I foresee a completely different outcome,” DeDeus said.
