Sarachan Takes in Academy

All Four Local Teams See Action

May 15, 2008

CHICAGO U.S. Development Academy Director of Scouting Dave Sarachan was on hand for this weekends slate of games, including 12 contests featuring New England teams.

Its still a fresh mentality as far as managing this kind of roster as a player or a coach, said the assistant coach of the Mens National Team. Just like anything else, in any business or any walk of life, experience in soccer is key. The experience of year one will be critical for all of the Academy teams to draw on for year two.

As the Academy continues its first year, players and coaches have had to make adjustments to training more and playing in fewer games, and Sarachan thinks that may explain the quick-scoring trend.

In the case of our Academy games, where youre gearing up through the week with training for just one game on the weekend, there is a different mentality that goes into it as far as managing that team as a coach of player, he said. They only have 80 or 90 minutes to get through those moments where there is a let down. Players and coaches in the Academy are still getting used to that.
