Rough Beginning for Phantoms
New Hampshire Goes 0-for-2 in Weekend Road Swing
May 11, 2009
The New Hampshire Phantoms’ first road trip proved to be unkind as the team came home from losses against the Long Island Rough Riders (1-0) Saturday night and a 5-2 thumping against the Newark IronBound Express on Sunday afternoon.
The Phantoms’ goal scorers Sunday were Chris Banks and Michael Todesca.
“We deserved better, a tie would have been a fair result at Long Island, and we should have won at Newark, even though we lost 5-2,” said coach Jim DeDeus.
The Phantoms began the two-game road trip with 15 players and lost two to injury at Long Island, leaving only two field players on the bench as substitutions, making things difficult in Newark. The Phantoms were missing four players to injury prior to the road trip and several others to college commitments.
The Phantoms (0-2-1) have another difficult weekend coming up, as they face the Westchester Flames Saturday night and the Brooklyn Knights Sunday afternoon.
“We will have 18-20 players available for this trip, and that will be a big help,” said DeDeus.
The Phantoms return home on Friday, May 22 to host the Ocean City Barrons. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Southern New Hampshire University.
