Clint Dempsey is one of 24 players on the US roster for the friendly with Spain. |
All 17 of the European-based players that appeared on the U.S. roster for last week’s 2-0 loss against England have traveled to Santander. The match against No. 4 Spain will be broadcast on tape delay on ESPN2 at 5:30 p.m. ET and Galavision at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
Donovan remains one cap shy of reaching 100 international appearances after being ruled out of the England match due to a groin strain. The MLS contingent named to the squad also includes the four players who appeared against England on Wednesday and Colorado Rapids midfielder Pablo Mastroeni, who last played for the United States against Sweden in August of 2007.
Managed by Luis Aragones, Spain has qualified for Euro 2008 and has been drawn into Group D of the tournament with Russia, Greece and Sweden. Boasting a wealth of talent and experience, the Spaniards are led by Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, whose 24 goals in the English Premier League this season set a record for the most goals by a foreigner in his debut season in the EPL.
The U.S. will head back across the Atlantic to face No. 1-ranked Argentina on June 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET in New Jersey.
