Revs to Host MLS Futbolito

First Time Club Will Host Event

May 5, 2008

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution will host MLS Futbolito, Major League Soccer’s multicultural grassroots initiative, for the first time ever this June, the club announced this weekend.

MLS Futbolito is the league’s official 4v4 soccer tournament. Current Revs players and MLS legends will make appearances at the day-long event to be held June 14 at UMass-Boston. It is the largest touring multicultural event hosted by a U.S. professional sports league, and is a series of all-day events targeting the League’s growing fan base.

“The Revolution is very excited to bring Futbolito to New England for the first time in team history,” said New England General Manager Craig Tornberg. “This is an authentic, multicultural grassroots tournament that will showcase the natural talents of the local players in our team’s region. We’re looking forward to a great day of small-sided soccer and seeing the excitement generated by this event.”

The 4-v-4 tournament is open to players of all ages, abilities and affiliations. Team rosters can consist of up to seven players (four field players and three substitutes) and each team will play in round-robin action, with the possibility of advancing to the single-elimination championship playoff.

Teams registered for the competition will be divided according to age groups and competitive levels. Winners of each division will receive prizes

Registration for the Boston Futbolito event is currently open at www.MLSfutbolito.com . Complete tournament rules and information are also available at the web site.
