Revs Waive Four Players

Brings Total Players Gone to Six

The Revolution have waived a quartet of players ahead of Thursday’s MLS waiver draft, Soccer New England has learned.

Miguel Gonzalez was one of four players waived by the Revolution Wednesday.

Marshall Leonard, Miguel Gonzalez, Brian Byrne and Chris Loftus have been told they are surplus to requirements at Gillette Stadium. With Andy Dorman having refused a new contract with the league and after James Riley was selected by San Jose in last week’s expansion draft, the moves bring to six the number of players from New England’s 2007 roster.

Drafted out of Virginia in 2002, Leonard became a key member of the Revolution’s sides from 2003-05, making 62 appearances. However, an achilles tendon injury suffered in a training ground scrimmage in the early part of the 2006 season caused the Georgia native to miss the remainder of the season.

Leonard did not appear in an MLS game in the 2007 season. The only member of the waived four that did was Byrne, who appeared off the bench against Real Salt Lake on June 2.
