The Revolution will open the 2008 season against the Houston Dynamo at Gillette Stadium. |
The Revs announced Wednesday that they will host MLS First Kick 2008 on Saturday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m., the club’s first-ever season-opening match at home.
“We’re pleased to open the 2008 season at home for the first time ever, and we’re especially excited to open the season against Houston which is becoming a great rival after our recent meetings at MLS Cup,” Revolution General Manager Craig Tornberg said in a club statement. “Gillette Stadium is one of the best home venues in Major League Soccer, and we believe our fans are the most passionate and supportive in the league. Our club is excited to be able to kick off the new season in front of our enthusiastic crowd, and to continue to develop the growing rivalry with Houston.”
The Revs and Dynamo have met a total of six times since Houston entered the league as an expansion team in 2006. In regular-season action, the Revs hold a slim 1-0-3 lead in the all-time series. In postseason action, of course, Houston has had better luck, beating the Revs in the the past two MLS championship games.
The Revolution will play their second match of the season on the road in Bridgeview, Ill., against the Chicago Fire on Thursday, April 3 at Toyota Park.
