Revs Squeak Past Bermuda

Cristman, Mansally Provide Goals

February 21, 2008

HAMILTON, Bermuda – The recently resigned Kenny Mansally, having himself quite the preseason after notching a hit trick in the year’s first exhibition game, added a fourth goal last night in the Revolution’s 2-0 victory over the Bermuda National Team.

Mansally put the Revs ahead in the 21st minute when he collected a short pass from the night’s other goal-scorer, Adam Cristman, in the middle of the area and blasted a low, hard shot in the net.

Cristman added his second tally in as many contests when he pounced on a Shalrie Joseph deflection and struck it home low for the 2-0 advantage in the 48th minute.

Things weren’t all rosy for the Revs, however, as Sainey Nyassi was forced to leave the match after a collision with a Bermuda defender opened up a wound above his eye. Nyassi was taken to a local hospital for a precautionary screening and was replaced by trialist Javier Delgado.

Second-half substitute keeper Brad Knighton prevented Bermuda from pulling within one goal in the 53rd minute when he stopped a breakaway from the edge of the center circle by Aljame Zuill.

In the 73rd minute, Zuill again had a chance when he chipped Knighton from the left wing, but trialist Sam Brill recovered and made a goal line clearance to preserve the shutout.

Amaechi Igwe saw his apparent goal – a header on the far post off a Chris Albright cross – and a Revs 3-0 lead taken off the board midway through the second half after he was adjudged to have come from an offside position.

Several squad members were unavailable for the game because of injuries: F Jose Angulo (left knee), M Wells Thompson (left heel), D Rob Valentino (left knee), F Spencer Wadsworth (left ankle) and GK Doug Warren (eye infection).

With the win, the Revs improved to 2-0-0 in preseason matches this year. The team is scheduled to return to Foxborough on Thursday, Feb. 21, and will train locally five days next week.
