Chivas will play host on Sunday afternoon to a New England Revolution team that has been very inconsistent this season. Both teams will be looking to put their seasons back on track with a victory.
The Revs, who lost 3-0 last Saturday at home to the Chicago Fire, enter the match with a 3-3-1 record. Injuries and suspensions have prevented the team from putting out a full strength lineup this season and at times the team has been without as many as six regular starters.
On Sunday, all-time leading scorer Taylor Twellman looks set to make his first appearance this year after knee surgery. Chris Albright and Steve Ralston both made their return last weekend after early season injuries kept them both out for over a month, but Sainey Nyassi looks likely to miss his third match in a row with a quad strain and Shalrie Joseph could miss his first match of the season with a right knee sprain.
Coach Steve Nicol put the team back in a 3-5-2 formation last weekend after using a 4-4-2 formation for the first time this season in their win in Dallas the week before. With the current injury situation and their success in the 4-4-2 a little over two weeks ago, it seems likely Nicol will return to that formation again on Sunday.
For Chivas USA, who hasn't seen a victory in over a month, injuries have been less of a factor in recent weeks. Veteran defender Claudio Suarez, however, will miss Sunday's match due to suspension, while experienced midfielder Raphael Wicky and striker Alecko Eskandarian is still out with an injury.
The two teams have faced each other six times since Chivas USA entered the league in 2005 and the all-time series is even at 2-2-2.
