June 25, 2008

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. The Revolution announced the names of the players selected for its 2008-09 Under-16 and Under-18 youth program on Tuesday. Players from Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire are represented on the two teams, which formally begin national competition this fall in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.

The Revolutions groundbreaking youth program which is completely free of cost to all chosen participants allows the regions top youth players to train under the guidance of the Revolutions coaching staff and have the opportunity to one day play for the Revolution. The program, under Major League Soccers initiative, also allows all participants to retain their NCAA eligibility.

A Revolution Under-17 team, comprised of members of both the Under-16 and Under-18 teams, will make the clubs youth competition debut in early July when they compete in the second-annual SUM Under-17 Cup in Colorado.

The Revolution, which currently boasts Major Leagues Soccer best record (8-4-3, 27 pts.), launched its Under-16 and Under-18 youth teams in April. Revolution Director of Youth Development Mario Prata, a former Portugal youth national team player and SL Benfica star, heads the program.
