Revs Resign Gambians

Mansally, Nyassi Coming Back to Club

February 16, 2008

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Gambia youth internationals Abdoulie "Kenny" Mansally and Sainey Nyassi resigned with Major League Soccer Friday to again play for the Revolution.

Mansally was elevated to the team’s 18-man senior roster, while Nyassi was resigned as a developmental player. The two players will count against the Revs’ eight-man international player limit. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deals were not released.

"Both Kenny and Sainey showed great potential last season, and we're pleased to be able to bring them back again in 2008," said Revolution Director of Soccer Michael Burns. "They have gained significant experience at the youth international level, and we're looking forward to them growing and maturing with our club this season."

Mansally, 19, made one appearance for the Revs last season. The forward made his MLS debut at Chicago on Oct. 6. He played the final 14 minutes in the team’s game, collecting a yellow card caution. Mansally also made four appearances with the Revs’ reserve squad, scoring two goals. He was originally signed by the Revolution as a youth international on Aug. 31.

Nyassi, also 19, appeared in one MLS game last year at D.C. on Sept. 9. Prior to that match, he made his professional debut with the Revs five days earlier in the team’s overtime victory over the Carolina RailHawks in the semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup, in which he helped create the game-winning goal in the first extra-time session. He was originally signed by the Revolution as a youth international on Sept. 6.

Both players were members of Gambia’s Under-20 squad that advanced to the knock-out rounds at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. Mansally and Nyassi both played in each of Gambia’s four games, while Mansally scored the team’s game-winning goal against Portugal that sent Gambia through to the knock-out rounds.
