Revs Make Roster Moves
The New England Revolution have been busy the past few days, adding two members of Gambias U-20 World Cup team to the squad, while shedding two other players who have not made the grade.
On September 1, the club signed Sainey Nyassi, who started all four games of Gambias U-20 squad that advanced to the knockout rounds of the 2007 World Cup in Canada after defeating New Zealand and Portugal.
Were pleased to add Sainey to the roster, said Revolution Director of Soccer Michael Burns. He has seen tremendous success with the Gambian youth national team, and were looking forward to developing his talents further with our team.
One week later, the Revs dipped into Gambias U-20 World Cup roster again, inking Nyassis teammate, midfielder Adboulie Mansally.
Mansally will occupy one of the Revs youth international roster spots. Terms of neither deal were released per standard MLS transfer policies.
Mansally and Nyassi were teammates on the Gambian squad in the 2007 U-20 World Cup. Nyassi saw his first action with the Revs in the Open Cup semifinal on September 4l. Mansally scored the game-winning goal against Portugal that sent his Gambian team to the round of 16 in that tournament.
Were pleased to see Abdoulie join our squad, said Burns. We believe both he and Sainey played extremely well in this summers U-20 World Cup and were thrilled to add two young exciting players to our roster.
In other roster moves, the Revs released Arsene Oka and Ryan Solle and acquired a first-round draft pick from FC Dallas in exchange for salary budget considerations.
