Revs Leave New York Tied

Win at Home Would Take Series

October 28, 2007
By Sean Donahue

The New England Revolution left New York knotted 0-0 in the two game aggregate goal Eastern Conference Semifinal series.

The Revs, the only team in this year's playoffs not trailing after their away leg, where kept on the back foot for much of the match, but solid defensive play and a couple of key saves from Matt Reis allowed the Revs to leave New York with a draw. The result means the series will be decided next Saturday in the friendly confines of Gillette Stadium.

New York had their first good opportunity five minutes into the match, when Juan Pablo Angel flicked a Dave van den Bergh cross to a streaking Francis Doe. Reis ran out to cut down the angle and managed to save a powerful blast from Doe.

The Red Bulls next chance came 11 minutes later, when the ball ended up at the feet of Jozy Altidore after a flurry at the top of the box. The young striker unleashed a left-footed blast from just inside the box that sailed over Reis, but went high of the net.

Right back Hunter Freeman put in a dangerous shot in the 32nd minute, unleashing a strike from long range that Reis managed to hold onto with Angel lurking at the far post ready to put away any rebound.

Angel had a chance of his own five minutes later, hammering a shot of frame. A well-positioned Reis could only parry the ball out of the box.

Neither side managed to really threaten their opponents net in the second half. The best chance for either side came in the 82nd minute after a chipped pass by Shalrie Joseph seemed to be headed to Seth Stammler. Taylor Twellman managed to slide past Stammler and put a shot on frame, but 'keeper Jon Conway was well-positioned, despite the surprise shot, and made the save.

The second leg takes place Nov. 3 at Gillette Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
