Revs Ink Three Players
BC Alum Among Signees
March 12, 2008
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution agreed to terms with forward/midfielder Spencer Wadsworth, forward Kheli Dube and former Boston College defender Sam Brill Wednesday.
All three will be placed on the Revs’ developmental roster. Per team and league policies, terms of the deals were not released.
All three players were acquired through different means. Wadsworth was a fourth-round selection by the Revs in this year’s SuperDraft, Dube was picked in the Supplemental Draft and Brill, the former BC back, joined on by way of a trial.
“These three players are talented and will add depth to our squad,” said Revolution Director of Soccer Michael Burns in a club statement. “Through the preseason they’ve shown the skill and desire to perform at the professional level and we look forward to them developing in our system.”
Wadsworth, 21, was the Revs’ final SuperDraft selection in 2008, taken 55th overall selection out of Duke. He played in 20 games in 2007, recording two goals and adding one assist, while seeing limited action because of off-season foot surgery. In his Duke career, Wadsworth played in 86 games and scored 25 goals while adding 34 assists. In 2006, he led the nation in assists with 14.
Mkhokheli “Kheli” Dube, 24, whom the Revolution acquired with the eighth overall selection in the first round of the Supplemental Draft, was the Big South Player of the Year in 2007 while attending Coastal Carolina. The 6-foot-1, 155-pound Zimbabwe native scored 11 goals as a senior, while adding five assists, as the Chanticleers finished atop the Big South standings with a perfect 6-0-0 record. Before his two-year stint at Coastal Carolina, Dube transferred from NAIA powerhouse Lindsey Wilson. He is also a former member of Zimbabwe’s Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 squads.
Brill, 22, joined New England as a trialist this preseason. A Newton, Mass., native and a graduate of Newton North High School, Brill was a four-year starter for BC before graduating in 2007. As a senior, he started along the back line in all 17 of the Eagles’ games, anchoring a defense that allowed just 24 goals all season for a 1.33 goals against average.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound back also showed some attacking prowess, scoring three goals and adding two assists. For his career, Brill had six goals and three assists in 63 appearances (58 starts). A co-captain during his junior year at Boston College, Brill earned All-Big East second-team honors as a sophomore, and has also trained with the U.S. Under-18 team.
