April 10, 2008

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution signed third-round pick Matthew Britner, a defender out of Brown, to a developmental contract Wednesday. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not released.

Britner, a native of Canada, will occupy one of the team’s eight international roster spots and will also fill one of the team’s 10 developmental roster slots.

Britner, 22, was chosen by New England in the third round (41st overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft out of Brown. A two-time All-Ivy League selection and the 2007 Ivy League Player of the Year, Britner started 53 of the 54 games in which he appeared for the Bears and recorded three goals and one assist in his five-year intercollegiate career.

He was also a member of Canada’s Under-20 World Cup squad in 2005 and has played for numerous other Canadian youth national teams.
