The procedure was performed Wednesday morning by head team physician Dr. Bertram Zarins at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Albright, 30, required the surgery because of a tear in his left lateral meniscus, an injury he originally suffered in training the week before the Friday’s match against D.C. United. Albright traveled to D.C. with the team pending results of a scan on his knee, which revealed the tear.
The former U.S. international is expected to miss 6-8 weeks while recovering from the surgery and rehabilitating his knee.
Albright has made just one appearance with the Revolution this season, playing right back in the home opener against FC Dallas April 4. He was unavailable for the 2009 season opener because of a suspension which carried over from the 2008 postseason, while he’s also missed matches because of a right ankle injury and this knee injury.
The 11-year MLS veteran set career highs in both starts (26) and minutes (2,340) in 2008, his first season in New England.
The Revolution (2-0-2, 8 points) will return to action on Saturday when the club makes its first-ever visit to the recently-opened Rio Tinto Stadium to face Western Conference foe Real Salt Lake at 9 p.m. ET. TV38 will televise the game live, while the WEEI Radio Network will also carry the game.
