The Revs will travel to Austin on Monday, Feb. 23 and will train there the next four days. The team will then conclude its stay with its first match of the 2009 preseason at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 28 against its host for the week, USL-1 side Austin Aztex FC, at Nelson Stadium.
Revs finalize 2009 home schedule
The Revolution has finalized its 2009 home schedule, confirming the times and dates for its two July matches at Gillette Stadium.
Originally listed as a TBA kickoff, the Saturday, July 11 match against the Kansas City Wizards is now scheduled for a 4 p.m. start. The match against Chivas USA will be played at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, after the contest was originally listed as TBA on either July 18 or 19.
Disappointment for Mansally, Nyassi
Revolution teammates and Gambia natives Kenny Mansally and Sainey Nyassi were left disappointed last week when their country’s scheduled friendly against Gabon was cancelled because of inclement weather just hours before the match was set to kick off.
The pair of 20-year-olds traveled to Paris for the game, only to return to New England having never set foot on the pitch. Mansally was aiming for his fourth international cap after appearing in three World Cup Qualifiers for Gambia, while Nyassi was searching for his first appearance with the senior national team.
Revolution to host inaugural “Rev Girls” interviews on Saturday
The Revolution will hold interviews for the Rev Girls, the club’s new promotional squad, at 10 a.m. in the East Fidelity Investments Clubhouse at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 21.
The Rev Girls will run promotions at games and nighttime events and make public appearances on behalf of the team. Women interested in interviewing to become one of the 2009 Rev Girls must be at least 21 years old and must bring positive identification with them.
Revolution youth teams begin Development Academy schedule
The New England Revolution under-18 and under-16 teams each began their inaugural seasons in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with a pair of road games this past weekend.
The teams traveled to New York for matches against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday and Baltimore for games against the Baltimore Bays on Sunday, Feb. 15. The U18s went 0-1-1, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Red Bulls and earning a 1-1 draw with the Bays. The U16s went 0-2, falling by a score a 3-2 in each of their matches.
