June 16, 2009
WALTHAM, Mass. -- The MPS Renegades won their second consecutive game this past Sunday, notching a 2-1 victory over the Long Island Lady Rough Riders.
Goals by Tori Huster and Casey Brown were enough to give the Renegades the three points in a tightly contested contest at Harvard Stadium.
"We are delighted to secure another victory against a very good opponent in Long Island," said MPS coach Darren Gallagher. "Tori and Casey took their goals extremely well and were key to our win this afternoon."
Florida State University midfielder Huster pounced in the 18th minute smashing home Shauna Kelleher feed.
The Rough Riders leveled shortly after half-time as Brooke DeRosa slotted home after good work by Vaila Barsley.
Katie Vogel did the hard work in the 76th minute as the Renegades scored the game winner, with Brown putting the finishing touches on a terrific feed from her teammate.
"After losing a goal early in the second half, the girls responded fantastically," said Gallagher. "We now go into Wednesdays game against table toppers Hudson Valley with an element of confidence."
The Renegades next contest is at Harvard Stadium Wednesday at 4 p.m. against the Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues.
