Renegades Secure First Home Win

Boston Scored First Three, Survives Late Scare

June 1, 2009

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Boston Renegades won their first home game of the season this weekend with a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Wildcats.

Allisa Oldenkamp, Brooke Knowlton and Tori Huster gave Boston a 3-0 lead before the visiting Wildcats made things interesting with two late goals.

We are delighted to earn another three valuable W-League points, said Renegades coach Darren Gallagher. We scored three excellent goals tonight and we are really coming together as a team.

The Renegades started brightly and had the majority of the possession in the opening 15 minutes as both Oldenkamp and Corie Halasz caused problems in the early period of the game.

In the 12th minute, it was Oldenkamp that cut in from the right and delivered a perfect left footed shot into the far left hand corner of the Wildcats net to put the home side in front, 1-0.

Crisp passing and good movement off the ball saw the Renegades notch their second of the match in the 25th minute of play when Knowlton put the finishing touches to the hard work of Halasz to double the Renegades advantage.

In the second half, Tori Huster sent the Renegades into a 3-0 ascendency with the goal of the game as the home side looked to have wrapped up the game as a contest.

The Wildcats were not to go down fighting and clawed themselves back into the game with two late goals but it was to prove too little too late for the visitors as the Renegades collected the home win and earned another three W-League points.

It was a great performance which had us three goals ahead as we looked very comfortable, said Gallagher. Two sloppy mistakes at the end took the shine off the result but we will learn from this as we prepare for our next game.

The Renegades next home game is part of doubleheader with the Boston Breakers at Harvard Stadium on Saturday, June 14. The Renegades will open the double dip against the Long Island Rough Riders at 2.30pm.
