Pistorius Leads Way with Texas Hat Trick
May 20, 2008
Reigning Honda National Player of the Year Ashlee Pistorius led the Boston Renegades with four goals Saturday night in a 7-1 W-League romp over the Northern Virginia Majestics.
The Texas A&M star’s second-half hat trick led the way for coach Darren Gallagher’s side.
“I am delighted in the all-around performance of the team,” said Gallagher, on the club’s website. “Ashlee’s second half hat trick was a special way to kick start her W-League career.”
Renegades captain Lauren MacIver got the ball rolling with a fantastic opening goal in the 14th minute of play. Pistrious doubled the Renegades advantage in the 23rd minute before midfielder MacIver notched her second strike of the afternoon four minutes later.
The Majestics were given a glimmer of hope in the 36th minute when Jessie Deegan pulled a goal back, but it was to prove insignificant as Pistorius took over after the interval.
The forward netted in the 47th, 49th and the 68th minute which, sandwich around a Gabriela Demoner counter, gave the Renegades a resounding 7-1 victory.
"The spectators were treated to an absolute spectacle this afternoon as we scored some fantastic goals," said Gallagher. "The win sets us up for a difficult road trip next weekend as we head to Washington Freedom and Jersey Sky Blue for two very tough contests."
The Renegades return home to Whitman Hanson High School on June 14th when they entertain the Fredericksburg Lady Gunners in a 4.30pm kick off. The game marks a double header event with the MPS Cape Cod Crusaders who entertain the Rhode Island Stingrays in a 7pm PDL contest.
