Ray Reid Earns 150th Victory
STORRS, Conn. Ray Reid owes his 150th win at the University of Connecticut to Akeem Priestley. Thats because the UConn midfielders goal with nine seconds remaining Saturday gave his team a 1-0 victory over Florida International and his coach his milestone win.
The goal finally came late in the 89th minute when Ryan Cordeiro played the ball to OBrian White inside the penalty area. White sent a pass over to Priestley towards the middle of the box and he managed to launch it through a sea of FIU defenders into the lower left side of the goal.
The Huskies tallied their third-straight shutout and improved to 4-0 on the year, matching their best start to a season under Reid and best since going 4-0 in 2005.
Reid is now 150-56-17 at UConn the best mark in the NCAA during that time and is just four wins away from reaching the 300-win plateau for his career (296-73-32).
Priestley's goal punctuated yet another offensive onslaught by UConn this season. The Huskies outshot FIU, 25-4 Saturday night, creating an overall 75-10 advantage through the first four games of the year. All but one starting field player put up a shot Saturday night.
Husky goalkeeper Josh Ford made just one save to earn the shutout and the freshman now holds a 0.50 goals-against average with shutouts on the season.
UConn returns to action Wednesday night against Hofstra at 7:00 p.m. in Morrone Stadium.
