Scoring the first two Fury goals were Karin Simonian off an assist by Kelly Henderson, then Vicki DiMartino off an assist by Simonian. The game-winning goal came in the 38th minute, as DiMartino was sent in on a breakaway and would then cross the ball to Jasmyne Spencer, who put the ball in the net.
For the home side, Leah Blayney scored off a corner kick and Catherine Nathans (off an assist from Beth McGill) would net goals for the Reds, but to no avail. All five goals occurred in the first 37 minutes of the match.
I asked them (at halftime) to show more intensity, more passion, more commitment, said Reds head coach Chris Bart-Williams. They were going through the motions. So that was really it. Ill give them a little bit of leeway for the fact that we had a game Friday, game Saturday, game Monday, Ill give them that. But, you know what? It's a high level [of soccer], youve got to do it... We just didnt show enough.
Long Islands next game is this Saturday night at 7:05 at the New England Mutiny (1-3 WPSL East), while the Reds host the undefeated Boston Aztecs Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
