Revolution captain Steve Ralston will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Seattle.

The Revs announced the injury on Monday morning and indicated Ralston has surgery on the knee scheduled for a later date.

The 35-year-old Ralston appeared in 20 games this season, ranking second on the team in both goals (7) and assists (7). He was taken out of Saturday’s game in the 19th minute after a challenge from the Sounders’ Osvaldo Alonso.

The loss is a huge blow for the Revs, who currently sit in third in the Eastern Conference, fighting for their playoff lives. That travel to Texas to face FC Dallas this Wednesday.

Ralston is Major League Soccer’s career leader in games played (378), games started (372), minutes (33,143), assists (135) and game-winning assists (41).
