PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Dean College head coach John Mark Andrade has been hired at Providence College to assist men’s head coach Chaka Daley.
Andrade, a former high school All-American at East Providence, comes back to Rhode Island with a wealth of soccer experience guiding Dean to a 10-5 record and the Region XXI Regular Season Championship in 2008.
“We are very excited and fortunate to have John Mark Andrade join the men’s soccer staff at Providence College,” said Daley in a statement. “To have a local product of his caliber and background in the BIG EAST Conference allows us to continue our pursuit of excellence of our men’s soccer program. Without question, John will push us to bigger and better heights in the BIG EAST and nationally.”
Andrade, who was the 1997 Gatorade & Umbro Rhode Island Player of the Year, has been the president of Bayside F.C. in East Providence since 2006 and has served as the head coach of the Rhode Island Olympic Developmental Program since 2005.
A two-year All-State performer and a 1997 NSCAA All-American at East Providence High School, Andrade was a four-year starter at Syracuse University. He earned All-BIG EAST accolades in 2000 and 2001 and All-Northeast Region honors in those same years. In addition, he served as team captain in 2001 and was named team MVP in 2000-01.
Andrade graduated from Syracuse with a degree in Consumer Studies in 2002 and then moved to Portugal where he played professionally in the first division for Maritimo F.C. and the third division for Fafe F.C.
He currently resides in East Providence with his wife Jenny.
