Playoff Race Heating Up For Twisters
Massachusetts Has Destiny In Own Hands
February 21, 2008
With just three weekends remaining in the American Indoor Soccer League season, all three “full season” teams are still in the hunt for the chance to oppose the Rockport Rampage in the league’s championship game.
That includes the Massachusetts Twisters, who will face off against the Cincinnati Excite this Saturday night in a game brimming with playoff implications.
Should the Excite win, coach Craig Rhodis’ crew will have a commanding six-point lead over the Twisters. However, Massachusetts has its destiny in its own hands. Should the Twsiters win, the two teams will have split the season series, forcing the second tiebreaker to be in effect, which is goal differential in head-to-head matchups between the Excite and Twisters.
In that tiebreaker, the Twisters hold a commanding 24-17 advantage.
The Twisters have two major factors in their favor. First is that they have a game in hand over the Excite, due to the postponement of the November 3rd game against the Northern Illinois Rebels. The second advantage is that since it was announced that the November 3rd game is to be made up on March 2 in Springfield, the Twisters will play their final three games at the Big E, where they are 3-2 this season.
The Excite will have to play their final two games on the road, in Rockford next Saturday, and in Waukegan against the Rebels on March 8.
