Pioneers Split First Two Games

Western Mass. Opens USL Season 1-1

April 22, 2008

The Western Mass. Pioneers split their first two games this weekend, falling to the Richmond Kickers, 3-0, in the season opener Saturday and beating Real Maryland, 1-0, in United Soccer Leagues action on Sunday.

The Pioneers, playing in the USL’s Second Division, surrendered three second-half goals Saturday and dropped a 3-0 decision in Richmond.

Sunday was a different story though, as the Pioneers’ Neil Krause netted a 33rd minute tally that would hold up all the way for the 1-0 win over Real Maryland.

Western Mass. next plays May 3, opening up their home field at Lusitano Stadium against Real Maryland at 7:30 p.m.
