Pioneers Lose Seesaw Battle

Fall, 3-2, to Crystal Palace

May 25, 2008

The Western Mass. Pioneers squandered a 2-1 lead, falling, 3-2, to Crystal Palace Baltimore in USL Second Division action Saturday.

The two sides exchanged goals in the first six minutes of the match, with the Pioneers’ Jeff Deren scoring in the fourth minute and Gary Brooks of Baltimore finding the back of the net just two minutes later.

Western Mass. pulled ahead, 2-1, on a Neil Krause goal in the 41st minute, but surrendered a penalty kick just four minutes later. Brooks took the kick and buried it to knot the score at 2-2.

The two sides played scoreless soccer up until the final minute when Ibrahim Kante potted a 90th-minute to give Baltimore the lead, 3-2, and then the win.

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 2-3-1 on the season. They next take on Bermuda Hogges this Tuesday, May 27, at Luistano Stadium.
