Pioneers Lose Seesaw Battle

Fall, 3-2, to Crystal Palace

The Western Mass. Pioneers squandered a 2-1 lead, falling, 3-2, to Crystal Palace Baltimore in USL Second Division action Saturday.

The two sides exchanged goals in the first six minutes of the match, with the Pioneers� Jeff Deren scoring in the fourth minute and Gary Brooks of Baltimore finding the back of the net just two minutes later.

Western Mass. pulled ahead, 2-1, on a Neil Krause goal in the 41st minute, but surrendered a penalty kick just four minutes later. Brooks took the kick and buried it to knot the score at 2-2.

The two sides played scoreless soccer up until the final minute when Ibrahim Kante potted a 90th-minute to give Baltimore the lead, 3-2, and then the win.

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 2-3-1 on the season. They next take on Bermuda Hogges this Tuesday, May 27, at Luistano Stadium.
