Pioneers Kick Off Tryout Season

USL Outfit Searches for New Talent

January 28, 2009

The Western Mass. Pioneers of the USL's Second Division held its first open tryout Friday, as Soccer City in Wilbraham hosted 20 local and international players in a strong technical workout conducted by coach Lezcek Wrona, who is back at the helm for another season.

It is important to hold this type of tryout to look at local players to enhance our team, said Wrona.

Local and returning players Mike Lima from Ludlow and Frederico Molinari from Argentina headlined the workout.

Mike and Frederico added another dimension of intensity and a positive attitude to the tryout, said General Manager Greg Kolodziey. Twenty players do not seem like many but it does give the coaching staff the ability to really critique the athletes.

There will be two more tryout dates at Soccer City on Feb. 6 and Feb. 13. If a player signs up for the first time on Feb. 6, he will be asked back for a third date. That date will be announced in the near future.

Tryouts will again be held at Soccer City in Wilbraham from 9 to 10:30 p.m. (both dates). A try-out fee of $75 will guarantee the participant three tryouts. There are no refunds. If a player is chosen, he will be asked to come back for training once dates, times and locations are established.

A tryout application and a waiver will have to be filled out prior to stepping on the field. The applications can be found on the Pioneers website at www.wmpioneers.com. The waiver will be distributed at Soccer City prior to the first tryout.

Soccer City requires indoor footwear only - no cleats allowed.
