Pioneers Battle to Earn Tie
Second Half Goals Draw Harrisburg
July 20, 2008
Down 2-0 in the second half on the road, the Western Mass. Pioneers fought hard and battled back with two second-half tallies, including the tying score with just three minutes of regular time left in a 2-2 draw with the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday.
The Pioneers fell behind early, surrendering a ninth minute strike just nine minutes into the USL Second Division match-up. Ryan Heins buried a Mo Oduor feed to give Harrisburg the 1-0 lead.
In the 34th minute, Oduor did it himself, finishing a penalty kick to extend the lead to 2-0.
But Western Mass. didn’t roll over, halving the lead with a Joe Germanese unassisted tally in the 61st minute.
The Pioneers completed the comeback when Neil Krause scored in the 87th minute, earning the 2-2 tie and moderately improving their record to 5-8-6.
The Pioneers close the season with a home match next Saturday against the Wilmington Hammerheads.
