Phantoms Finish With Loss
End season with 3-1 defeat to Cincinnati
MANCHESTER, N.H. The New Hampshire Phantoms ended their season in familiar fashion with a loss.
The Phantoms fell to 3-11-5 on the season with a 3-1 loss at the hands of the visiting Cincinnati Kings Saturday at Chabot-McDonough Stadium at Manchester Memorial High School.
Playing in front of 1,023 fans and one of its largest crowds of the year, the Phantoms conceded an early goal to the Kings just six minutes into the game when Nathan Micklos hammered home a rebound on a Samuel Miller shot. From there, Cincinnati never looked back in scoring goals at 45 and 58 minutes in taking a commanding 3-0 lead.
Cincinnati, owners of a 3-11-5 United Soccer Leagues Second Division record, was looking for a little retribution following last night's 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Western Mass Pioneers in Ludlow. N.H. lost its second consecutive game and finished a six-game home stretch with a 2-3-1 record.
New Hampshire finally got on the scoreboard in the 89th minute when Oumar Thiam (Guinea) finished a Chris Loftus serve amid chaos in the penalty box. The Phantoms were playing without star midfielder and playmaker Romelle Burgess (Barbados National Team) who had to return to his native country due to visa constraints.
