Passion Earn First Win
Then Start First Winning Streak
June 9, 2008
Not only did the first-year Connecticut Passion earn their first W-League victory, but they decided the feeling was good that they won again the next day in what easily was the best week of their young existence.
The Passion beat the Northern Virginia Magestics, 3-2, on Saturday for the first win in club history, and then followed it up with a 2-1 triumph over the Fredericksburg Lady Gunners on Sunday.
Connecticut’s first win didn’t come without any drama, as the Passion went down 2-0 in the first 17 minutes against the Magestics. However, after an own goal pulled Connecticut within one, Nathalie Urbas did the rest, potting goals in the 39th and 70th minutes to give the Passion a 3-2 win.
The next day, the Passion and Urbas picked up right where they left off. After a scoreless first half, Urbas took matters into her own hands, scoring 49th- and 57th-minute goals to give Connecticut a 2-0 lead. The Passion surrendered a 60th-minute goal, but held on for the 2-1 victory, their first two-game winning streak.
The Passion upped their record to 2-2-2 and next take on Jersey Sky blue this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
