Parkhurst, who was recently honored with Major League Soccer’s Fair Play Award for the second consecutive season, has made three appearances for the U.S. National Team. The 24-year-old center back most recently appeared for the full national team on Jan. 20, playing the second half of the U.S.’ 2-0 victory against Sweden.
Parkhurst most recently represented his country at the Beijing Olympics as one of three “overage” players on Under-23 head coach Peter Nowak’s 18-man roster. Parkhurst played all 270 minutes as the U.S. went 1-1-1 in group play and did not qualify for the medal round.
The 19-man group assembling in Commerce City is comprised mainly of domestic-based players, with all but three of the group coming from Major League Soccer. Goalkeepers Troy Perkins (Valerenga IF, Norway) and Matt Pickens (out of contract) and defender Clarence Goodson (IK Start, Norway) are the only players called to camp not currently playing for an MLS club.
The U.S. will host Guatemala in the last CONCACAF Semifinal Round qualifier on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The Americans have already secured their spot in the final round of qualifying along with Costa Rica and El Salvador.
On Nov. 16, Bradley will name his final training camp roster for the Guatemala match, with the group expected to consist of some players from the current camp as well as additional players from Europe and the clubs which are eliminated from the MLS Cup Playoffs this week.
