With over a month until their next MLS game, the New England Revolution's focus has switched on two other competitions. Sunday, the Revs will kick off their participation in SuperLiga, but not before the team continues its run in the US Open Cup this Tuesday evening.
The defending US Open Cup Champions beat the Richmond Kickers (USL-2), 3-0, last week to advance to the quarterfinals and will take on Crystal Palace Baltimore (USL-2) in the quarterfinals.
The Revs, who won 2-1 against the Los Angeles Galaxy to improve their record to a league best 10-4-3 before their break from league action, are again expected to use a much less experienced lineup in the Open Cup.
In their win against Richmond, the Revs used what was basically their reserve squad plus Taylor Twellman and Kenny Mansally up top and found great success against their third division opponents. Richmond, however, was in the midst of a scheduling nitghtmare, playing three away games in just four days.
Crystal Palace Baltimore, though also a third division team, may prove more of a threat with a full week's rest. The team hasn't played since their 2-0 US Open Cup upset over the New York Red Bulls last Tuesday and will certainly be full of confidence having beaten an MLS side already, despite playing down a man for nearly an hour.
