White Notches Second Straight Hat Trick

October 11, 2007

STORRS, Conn. – O’Brian White made sure the UConn men’s soccer team lived up to the billing.

Backed by White’s second consecutive hat trick, the University of Connecticut, ranked No. 1 in the nation in this weeks NSCAA/adidas and Soccer America polls, handily beat Providence, 3-0, Wednesday night.

UConn
Chukwudi Chijindu and the UConn Huskies are currently ranked No. 1.

White currently leads the team, conference and nation in scoring with 32 points off 14 goals and four assists.

UConn (12-1-0, 6-1-0 Big East) and White came out firing early, putting two goals past Providence (5-5-1, 2-3-1) goalkeeper Timothy Murray in the first 12 minutes of play. The first was a hard grounder into the lower left corner off an Akeem Priestley feed and the second was a close range finish of a Ryan Cordeiro centering pass.

The Huskies also got strong play from goalie Josh Ford, who made six saves to earn his ninth shutout of the year.

In the 86th minute, the NCAA leader in assists, Mike Pezza, earned his 13th of the year on a ball to White, who beat Murray one-on-one.

A day before the game, UConn bypassed Wake Forest in the polls to earn its first consensus No. 1 ranking in seven years.
