NE-10 Honors Local Pair
SNHU's Lambert, FPU's Johansson Win Awards
September 29, 2009
Sean Lambert of the Southern New Hampshire University mens soccer team and Angelika Johansson of the Franklin Pierce womens soccer team were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference on Monday afternoon the Goalkeeper and Player of the Week, respectively.
Lambert won the award for the second time this season. He extended his scoreless streak to 650:26 last week in a pair of shutout victories. The Rehoboth, Mass. native went the distance in a 2-0 win at UMass Lowell, turning aside five shots, before playing the first half of a 4-0 win over New Haven and making one save. Lambert has not allowed a goal since September 3 against Saint Thomas Aquinas as the Penmen have posted seven straight shutouts, one shy of the school record of eight established in 2000.
This season, Lambert has started all 10 games in goal for Southern New Hampshire and owns a 0.32 goals-against average and .914 save percentage. He ranked fourth in both categories in last weeks NCAA Division II statistical rankings. Lambert has recorded six shutouts and recently moved into a fourth-place tie on SNHUs all-time leader board with 19 career clean sheets.
Franklin Pierces Johansson scored five goals during the week for 10 points, including notching a hat-trick in last Tuesdays 5-0 win over Bentley. It was her first weekly award from the conference this season.
It marks the second-consecutive week a Raven womens soccer player was honored with the award, as senior midfielder Gabriela Demoner took home the honor last Monday.
Johansson got her week off to a great start with the three goals against Bentley in Sodexo Field. Her first goal came when she intercepted a Bentley pass in the offensive zone, weaved in, and deposited the ball in the back of the net to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead a little more than six minutes into the contest. Johansson capped the victory with a pair of goals late to give her the hat-trick.
Her strong play continued in Saturdays 7-0 win at Pace, as she scored twice to give her 10 goals for the season. Johansson is currently tied for second in the Northeast-10 in goals, goals-per-game, points and points-per-game.
