Mutiny's Mauer Called to U23s
Will Miss Weekend's Tilt With Aztecs
June 6, 2008
New England Mutiny midfielder Jenny Maurer has been called into camp for the U-23 United States Women's National Team. The East Longmeadow, Mass., native will miss this weekend's match versus the Boston Aztecs to attend a week-long residency at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
Maurer will be available to the Mutiny for its much anticipated clash with the Connecticut Reds, led by Tony DiCicco, on Friday June 13 at Agawam High School.
Maurer was a four-year starter at Boston College and captained the squad to their highest ever ranking at No. 10 in the nation in 2006. Signed by the Mutiny in 2003 as a high school senior, this is Jenny's sixth season with the Mutiny.
"This is a great opportunity for me and it would be an honor to represent my country", stated Maurer.
The U-23 WNT serves as a stepping stone for collegiate and post-collegiate players to the senior national team. In the summer of 2008, the U-23 WNT will participate in the Nordic Cup, which will be held in Sweden July 15-21.
